Psychotherapy Services

A mental illness is a condition that affects a person’s thinking, feeling, and mood and often impacts proper daily functioning and his or her ability to relate to other people. A mental health condition is often not just a result of a single event but is rather rooted in multiple interlocking factors such as genetics, biochemical processes, childhood experiences, environment, lifestyle, and any trauma involved. Different people will experience these life conditions in their own ways, but the direct cause of most mental illnesses is unknown.

With all the modern advances in mental health and counseling advocacy, there is still some stigma attached to mental illness. Many people are undiagnosed and shy away from seeking help, scared to address some painful issues buried inside for years or to be exposed to their family or community. In reality, mental conditions are no different from physical ones and require the same careful evaluation and diligent care. They are structured on the same continuum of severity ranging from mild to moderate to the most severe. And, just like physical ailments, some will only last for a period of time, such as grief issues or stress related to losing a job; other ones are often cyclical, such as anxiety and certain types of depression, and will require periodic care during the times when the most critical factors are exacerbated; and, yet other conditions, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder are life-long and necessitate continuous mental health care and interventions. There’s no shame in admitting you’re struggling with certain emotional issues or need help coping during some stressful life events. Mental health is a part of overall well-being and should be regarded as such in seeking assistance from a mental health professional.

As a mental health practitioner, I provide a safe environment to explore many issues affecting your psyche, daily functioning, and relationships with your close people. I work with different psychodynamic, insight-oriented and cognitive-behavioral techniques to create a psychotherapeutic plan based on inter-personal resolutions and accountability. I’m an eclectic therapist and pull from different modalities, such as CBT/ACT, Jungian, self psychology, psychosomatic, and mindfulness-based approaches, to formulate the best course of treatment for each client.

I provide individual and couple therapy to adults and older adults. Also, on a case-by-case basis, I will accept a mature adolescent who is willing to engage in extensive talk therapy and whose issues are appropriate to my expertise.

I offer remote psychotherapy sessions via a HIPAA compliant videoconferencing site. I’ve successfully worked with many clients from different parts of the state providing virtual psychotherapy services for a variety of issues. Most medical insurance plans are currently covering telehealth sessions, however, this may change in the future so please check with your particular insurance panel.
